We offer a number of therapies, all carried out by trained experts in their field.

Hydrotherapy

dog receiving hydrotherapyHydrotherapy allows weightless exercise for dogs in a controlled environment and is carried out by trained qualified vet nurses.

Hydrotherapy is of great benefit for the following conditions:

  • Pre & post surgery conditioning
  • Arthritus (including OCD and Hip Dysplasia
  • Joint and tendon injuries
  • Neck and back conditions
  • Hip conditions
  • Neurological prblems
  • Obesity
  • To improve general fitness and cardiovascular stamina

 

The use of hydrotherapy techniques encourages a full range of joint motion in reduced weight bearing conditions resulting in improved muscle tone without undue stress on damaged tisues.


Physiotherapy

dog receiving physiotherapyPhysiotherapists assess and treat soft tissue (muscle, tendon, joint capsule and ligament) injuries and movement disfunction in animals. Manual and electrotherapy techniques are used to reduce pain, increase flexibility and restore normal movement.

Physiotherapy is helpful in treating the following conditions:

  • Muscle injuries
  • Ligament injuries
  • Tendon injuries
  • Joint problems
  • Arthritus
  • Neurologial problems
  • Post surgical rehabilitation

 

Practioners:

All physiotherapy treatments are carried out by a chartered physiotherapist who has over 25 years experience as a vetinary physiotherapist.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an acient Chinese healing technique which involves the placing of needles into specific areas of the body to evoke a healing effect. This increases the body’s release of natural painkillers and modifies pain pathways to the brain and spinal cord.

Acupuncture may be used to treat the following conditions:

  • Arthritus (including OCD and Hip Dysplasia)
  • Muscles and ligament injuries
  • Back and neck pain
  • Paralysis/Paresis
  • Post operative healing
  • Allergies and skin problems
  • Gastro-intestinal problems
  • Epilepsy
  • Behavioural problems
  • Any condition where the immune system needs boosting

Osteopathy & Cranial Osteopathy

When the body is balanced and efficient it will funtion with the minimum of wear and tear. Osteopathy is a way of detecting and treating damaged parts of the body such as muscles, ligaments, nerves and joints.
Cranial osteopathy is a refined and subtle type of osteopathic treatment that uses very gentle manipulative pressure to encourage the release of stress throughout the body, including the head.

Osteopathy is helpful in treating:

  • Back, neck and joint pain
  • Arthritus
  • Injuries
  • Recurrent infections
  • Digestive problems
  • Asthma and chest complaints

Behaviour Counselling Service

Advice and revision programmes for all unwanted pet behaviour including the following issues:

  • Aggression
  • Disobedience
  • Destructiveness
  • Fear of noises/phobias
  • Inappropriate soiling
  • Nusiance barking

 

Practioner:

All consulations are carried out by a veterinary surgeon with a special interest in animal behaviour.

Pet Therapy is the first facility of its kind in Scotland. We are a referral centre for veterinary rehabilitation dedicated to improving the quality of life of animals with mobility issues and chronic pain.

Clinic Tour

We have first class facilities available for your pet. Pets A+E is an out of hours veterinary emergency service for clients and their pets. The Pet Therapy clinic offers specialist rehabiliation and pain care and was the first facility in Scotland to have both a hydrotherapy pool and a water treadmill.
