Meet the Team
Pet Therapy is a unique pain and rehabilitation facility using staff with extra post graduate qualifications in their areas of interest in rehabilitation and pain relief. We are dedicated to helping improve the quality of life of animals suffering from mobility issues and chronic pain. The team specialises in animals suffering from mobility issues and chronic pain, such as osteoarthritis, cruciate ligament disease, hip and elbow dysplasia, spinal and neurological problems, muscle and tendon injuries and obesity.
Lesley Herd BVMS CCRP MRCVS
Lesley graduated from Glasgow University Veterinary School in 1987 and has been in small animal practice for 23 years. Throughout her career she has worked both in private practice and for charities such as PDSA, RSPCA and SSPCA. She also spent 4 years working at Northside Emergency Clinic in Birmingham and so has a wide range of experience in both medicine and surgery.
Her interest in rehabilitation began after working with racing greyhounds at one of the NGRC licensed racing tracks. She completed a post graduate qualification in rehabilitation at the University of Tennessee who are recognized as the worlds leading rehabilitation facility Lesley is the only Veterinary Surgeon in Scotland to hold the CCRP qualification and one of only a few in the United Kingdom. Lesley decided to combine her interest in emergency work and rehabilitation by opening Pets A+E/Pet Therapy in 2004.
Lesley has a 2 year old daughter and a black Labrador called Max to keep her busy when she is not working.
Karen Templeton RVN
Karen is our Head Nurse and qualified in 1994. She worked in East London at Gardner’s Veterinary Surgery for 8 years and held the position of Head Nurse. She then joined Companion Care in South London thereafter moving to a busy emergency practice still within the London area.
She moved to Scotland in 2000 and worked in a small animal practice in Dundee where she qualified as a nursing assessor. She then moved to Glasgow working for the SSPCA for 2 years. Karen joined Pets A+E/Pet Therapy when it opened in 2004 to renew her interest in emergency work and also to meet new challenges in veterinary rehabilitation work.
Karen has 2 dogs Alfie is a crossbreed that was rescued from the SSPCA. He had been involved in a road traffic accident. She also has Fluke, a Staffordshire bull terrier also from the SSPCA.
Gemma Turner RVN
Gemma qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2008 from Glasgow University Veterinary School and Edinburgh Telford College. She then joined a small animal practice in Ayrshire and started with Pets A+E/Pet Therapy in July 2009. Emergency work has always been an interest of Gemma’s and she was keen to expand her experience and knowledge in rehabilitation.
Gemma’s pets include a bearded dragon called Zaphael and a chocolate Labrador called Ska. In her spare time she is a Girl Guide Leader and works on her allotment.
Alison Ramsay BVM&S Cert. Acup. IVAS Cert. Pain Management MRCVS
Alison graduated from the University of Edinburgh Veterinary School in 1994 and has worked in several small animal practices throughout the United Kingdom. Alison developed a keen interest in acupuncture and travelled back and forward to the United States of America to attain her International Veterinary Acupuncture Qualification. Alison is one of a very small number of Veterinary Surgeons in the United Kingdom to hold this prestigious qualification.
Alison is a leading practitioner in acupuncture and takes a holistic/Chinese Medicine approach to her acupuncture referrals enabling her to treat a wide variety of conditions.
Alison has recently attained a Post Graduate Certificate in Pain Management from the University of Edinburgh and is presently working towards her MSC. This is a valuable tool for many of the cases seen at Pet Therapy allowing an improvement in the quality of life for many of the animals with chronic pain conditions.
In her spare time Alison enjoys Yoga.
Ruth Torrance MCSP ACPAT
Ruth is a Chartered Physiotherapist who has over 25 years experience as both a human and veterinary physiotherapist. Although Ruth still sees her human patients she spends a lot of time treating horses and has gained a great deal of respect in that sphere. She also has an excellent reputation as a physiotherapist for companion animals and has been working at Pet Therapy since 2005.
In her spare time Ruth enjoys hillwalking and looking after her cats.
Anna Potter BSc (Hons) Osteopathic Medicine GOsC Registered
Anna gained an honours Degree in Osteopathic Medicine at the British College of Naturopathy and Osteopathy. She then went on to study courses in Cranial Osteopathy. Anna has also had experience working in the Osteopathic Centre for Children in London and the Dyslexia treatment Centre in Glasgow.
Anna has gained a wealth of experience treating animals with various conditions using cranial osteopathy. She has worked throughout the United Kingdom and has acquired and excellent reputation in her field.
Anna has a Golden Retriever called Oscar.
Elaine Henley B.A. (Hons) Cert AAB, PG.Dip. CABC
Elaine is a Companion Animal Behaviourist who has an academic background in Human Psychology. Elaine has completed a certificate in Applied Animal Behaviour and a Post Graduate Certificate in Companion Animal Behaviour Counselling and is now working towards her PhD. Elaine has also successfully completed the Clinical Application of Pheromone Therapy from the University of Lincoln.
She is Principal Lecturer on Animal Behaviour at Glasgow Metropolitan College.
Elaine is the behavioural practitioner at Pet Therapy where she sees owners who are experiencing difficulties with their pet’s behaviour. She also runs puppy and training classes at the clinic.
In her spare time Elaine has a keen interest in both breeding and showing Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. For several years she also showed her Hungarian Puli at Crufts and other major shows.
Elaine recently appeared on STV as Scotland’s “Dog Whisperer”
