About Pet Therapy
Pet Therapy is the first facility of its kind in Scotland. We are a referral centre for veterinary rehabilitation dedicated to improving the quality of life of animals with mobility issues and chronic pain. Lesley Herd, who runs Pet Therapy and Pets A+E is the only person in Scotland to hold the CCRP qualification from the University of Tennessee and all cases are ultimately under her veterinary supervision. This is extremely important as rehabilitation in the wrong hands can make matters worse.
Looking after your Pet
Cases are usually referred from your own veterinary practice who will have already diagnosed the problem and sent us your pet’s full medical history prior to our initial assessment. You may contact us directly but we always liaise with your own veterinary practice prior to any initial consultation.
All cases are initially examined by Lesley to ascertain their level of health and fitness, and to allow the design of an appropriate rehabilitation programme for that individual animal. During this initial consultation Lesley will assess physical and body condition, muscle mass, gait, joint movement and level of fitness. Initial measurements are taken to allow evaluation of your pet’s progress. This is continually monitored and animals are re-examined by Lesley at regular intervals.
Whilst most of our patients are dogs, we do see cats and rabbits.
We commonly treat conditions such as:
- Hip dysplasia
- Elbow dysplasia
- Cruciate ligament injuries
- Arthritis
- Neurological and spinal conditions
- Post-operative rehabilitation of fractures
- Muscle and tendon injuries
- Obesity
